5 Ingredients Needed to Make Passion Fruit Ice Cream

This sweet, tangy and creamy Passion Fruit Ice Cream is so easy to make. Only 5 ingredients are needed to make this fabulous flavour!

The ice cream base is made with milk, cream and a simple syrup containing passion fruit pulp. It is then churned and topped with passion fruit curd.

A tangy and refreshing ice cream with a tropical flair. Made with fresh passion fruit, sweetened condensed milk, and a little vanilla.

Using sweetened condensed milk in this recipe helps to keep the ice cream scoopable without becoming too icy. A lightened up version can be made by substituting a few tablespoons of skim milk powder.

In a bowl of a stand mixer or using a hand held mixer, whip the cream on medium speed until it holds stiff peaks (see video below). You may want to beat slightly less than the desired consistency as you don’t want to overbeat this as this can cause a grainy texture.

Add the sweetened condensed milk and passion fruit concentrate to the whipped cream and gently fold to combine. You can also add a dribble of passion fruit sauce over the top for extra color and flavor. If you do this, be sure to dribble it over the top of the ice cream to prevent it from clumping.

To prepare the ice cream base, you will need to measure out the ingredients and whisk them together. You can use a thermometer to check the temperature of the mixture.

The key to getting the best results is letting the base cool completely before you start churning it. This is easier than it sounds and I highly recommend you do this if you have an ice cream maker.

You’ll also need to whip the whipped cream and fold in the passion fruit pulp. This is a quick and easy way to make a delicious summer dessert that is sure to please!

You can also make your own simple syrup to add a hint of sweetness. This can be made using granulated sugar, brown sugar or turbinado sugar. You may also steep spices or herbs into the syrup to enhance the flavour. Try cinnamon, vanilla or fresh mint! Top with meringue for a truly elegant dessert.

Freezing passion fruit is an easy way to extend the shelf life of this tropical treat. It’s also a great way to use up any leftover passion fruit pulp you may have in your pantry or fridge!

To make this ice cream you’ll need the following ingredients: milk, condensed milk, skim milk powder, passion fruit pulp (see note 1). You can also add a few tablespoons of passion fruit seeds to the mixture for serving.

First, whisk the sugar and egg yolks until smooth. Next, temper the eggs by adding a small amount of the hot liquid into them gradually to warm them. This process helps prevent clumps of cooked egg in your custard.

After your egg yolk custard is finished, you can either transfer it to an ice cream maker and churn as normal or you can simply freeze it. Then, when you’re ready to enjoy your ice cream, remove it from the freezer and let it stand at room temperature for 5-10 minutes so it’s soft and creamy again!

Nothing cools you off like a scoop of ice cream on a hot summer day and nothing transports you to the tropics like a fresh, vibrant passion fruit. This easy homemade churned ice cream has all the tropical pizzazz that you could wish for.

The only thing standing between you and a scoop of this delicious homemade ice cream is about 10 minutes of active time in the kitchen. It’s so simple to make, it’s perfect for busy parents or kids who need a quick dessert.

Start by making a custard base, also known as “creme anglaise”. This is made with egg yolks which give it a velvety texture and smooth scoop-ability.
